This burgundy shelf was in the house but was replaced when I found this pine one (click here) at the Thrift Store (click here.)
When I took the burgundy shelf down, I wondered what I would do with it, and then I thought that it would be great to have on the back porch. It seemed the perfect size for breakfast items. I notice a long time ago, that my guests always prefer self-serve meals, so I always try to set out whatever my guests might want so they can get it themselves without having to ask for it. I thought this shelf would be perfect to use for a self-service breakfast bar.
Here it is loaded it up with some blue and white English cups and saucers
Then I added a few jams for the croissants and English muffins.
Another must for self-service out here are trays. The trays work great when I am serving buffet-style, and guests are carrying their plates, utensils, napkins and glasses to a table. I found these wood trays at TJ Maxx.
I love to have flowers and here are some in a vase from Ikea.
After my visit with Leslie at her house (click here) I decided to use her idea, and serve home-made natural flavored water. I added some watermelon slices to fresh well water for a refreshing drink.
My teenage daughter made some square chocolate chip cookies that I served. I don't think they were supposed to be square but that is what happens when you bake them too close together. (I was gone at the time taking blog photos, and left Mr. CH to supervise. Hmm...) I do have to admit that they were actually very delicious.
After breakfast, I cleared the dishes and wondered how the shelf would look with just some flowers and pots.
Remember my bluebells (click here)? I cut so many, that I used them every where.
What a lovely day; I think it is time for a nap.
