Red Bedroom

For those of you that prefer stained wood to painted wood, this post is for you!! I didn't paint any of these pieces, and probably won't ever.

This is a corner of our city bedroom decked in its winter reds for the holiday season.  Above my French settee is a portrait of my girls when they were little.

This is a great place is sit and read a book on cold winter days.

The bedding is also red with faux mink trim.   The bed is a Charles P. Rogers bed.  We also have one in the guest room you can see here.

On the other side of the bed is a antique French armoire.  This armoire used to be in the study and held my office supplies.  But when we moved the family piano in there for my teenage daughter this armoire can in here.  (More about that later.)

We did have a highboy in here, that just got moved up to the game room.

I'm not too upset about moving the highboy out of here, since I was wanting to replace the highboy and the dresser some day with something more French.

One of my favorite pieces in the room is this poof that looks like a stack of pillows.

It's actually all one piece and will support the weight of someone sitting on it.

The metal tray on my dresser holds lots of favorite goodies.

There's a box of old books in it.

See the old taped up book?

It was my FIL's and I believe they bought it when they lived in Switzerland. Click here to see more of that story.  Most of these little books came from my MIL and FIL. This tray also holds a ceramic fleur-de-lis,

and a cloche

that holds my little Eiffel Tower.

I also put this bird finial on the dresser.

The plates on the wall are hand-painted English.

The bedside tables are hand-carved little French chests.  The lamps on these tables are Aidan Gray.

On the bedside tables, I have some more fun things.

This neat old guy is from the MIL's house.  He's made from hand-carved wood, and then hand-painted.  You just can't find new stuff like this any more.

And I love these Staffordshire people.

On the other side of the bed is an antique French clock and another Staffordshire figure.

Here are some close-ups of the bronze clock and the Staffordshire boy and his dog.  I took the clock outside to get some better photos of it.

I just love this little girl with the flower basket.

I've been wanting to update this room some, but haven't gotten to it yet.  I wasn't sure I wanted to share it, since I do plan to make some changes, but Peggy made me. (She can be bossy that way.)

I love everything in this room, but the bed is just gorgeous! I just have to get an iron bed one day soon.

such gorgeous pieces! Not sure which I like best. I do not have any painted pieces in my home, and sometimes I cringe when I see some of the pieces people paint.
Then settee is just wonderful by the way!

Anita,
I love your bedroom! That settee is to die for, and so is that armoire. The woods and the red colors make it very warm and cozy. I got an idea from your post. We have a TV over our dresser(instead of a mirror.) To warm up that wall, I'm going to display some plates around the TV the way you did around your mirror.

Anita, I'm glad you shared this room. Love the red! That comfy French settee looks like the perfect spot in which to curl up with a good book. Love, love, love the little wooden man with his book. You are absolutely correct ~ just can't find such charming pieces such as this. The Staffirdshire piece and the Black Forest clock are gorgeous.

It's all gorgeous! You have fabulous taste. I'm just starting to incorporate a bit more red in to my own decor these days. Very convenient what with the holidays coming! And I'm with you on the setee, what a place to lounge and read a book! Love it.

Red is powerful. In feng shui color decorating red always signifies richness and luxury. If used too much, though, it can bring restlessness, bursts of anger and over stimulation.

I love this room. The red with the mink trimmings goes together so well. I could just curl up in that chair too. Love that you use pics of your girls as your artwork too. I think that just makes a home more of a home! Beautiful room! I know you probably are itching for a change, but I wouldn't change a thing!

It's so elegant and rich! I love red, and your red room is great. How nice to be able to have two homes to decorate in different ways! That helps with the cleaning more bathrooms side of the equation, I guess. :)

Very pretty, French look in this red room. Very classic and very different from your ranch home. I agree that not ALL furniture should/needs to be painted. Old wooden pieces are classic "as is"!!
