Homemade Snow Globes

I recently saw some beautiful little homemade snow globes shared at our Cowgirl Up party made by Homemade Modern. I thought to myself... I can do this!!

Before I tell you how I made them, I've got to point out my vintage French crate from Decor Steals.  I know, I know, it's gorgeous!! Wish I had bought more when they had them.  So back to my little snow globes.

Following the directions from Homemade Modern, I selected some jars, mostly mason jars. I removed the paper on the jars that had paper labels, by first soaking them in water and removing the paper.  Any paper that was left was removed with nail polish remover.  I then glued some tiny bottle brush trees from Micheal's into the bottom of the jars, and poured in some Epson salts. The final touch was a soft blue ribbon for the jar.

You could add a lid at this point, but I didn't.  Why go to all that work, when they are so adorable as they are?

This is probably the only snow we'll be seeing at the ranch.  I also added my inherited vintage preserve jar to the crate, filling it with vintage Christmas ornaments.

To add an unexpected element to the display, I placed chandy light bulbs in another inherited footed bowl.  I love the texture and bit of whimsy.  Basically all that was left to do was add some cedar from the outdoors to the crate.

You may not know this about me, but I don't like to spend lots of money on seasonal items. I'm not saying I'm cheap I probably am it's just that I prefer to use everyday items for holiday decorating as much as possible.  I don't want to store a bunch of Christmas decorations or spends lots of money on them.  So this display worked perfectly for me.  Most of these elements can be reused throughout the year.  The only things that could not be used year-round were the little trees.  If you have left over Epson salts, they make for a very soothing bath.

Everything else (minus the free greenery and vintage ornaments) can be used year-round.

Please come back Thursday night at 8 pm to join the our Homespun Christmas Link Party.  We would love for you to link up a Christmas post.

I am looking forward to seeing all of the wonderful ideas I know will be here.

I agree. Why buy a lot of stuff you only use once a year? I love your little pretties!

Too funny -- I spent the last two weeks looking for just the right little reindeer to place in my mason jar snow globe along with my little white tree. I lost it in an ebay auction tonight:( Oh well, perhaps my vintage Goodwill Santa will do? Love yours, as usual!

I like that these are so simple, but have a big impact. The bulbs are fun too; they are such a good shape.

Very fun Anita. My friends and I just made 20 mini snowglobes in S&P shakers for favors for our Christmas party next Monday night. They turned out pretty cute. Love yours in the fab crate!
