My $5 Round Top Bargain

It should come as no surprise to you, that I found several goodies at Round Top this year, but you won't believe what I got for $5.  Can you tell?

Before I get to my big Round Top bargain this year, I wanted to tell you about someone famous that we ALMOST saw.  Apparently a very famous person was shopping just ahead of us.  I won't say who it was, but I got a picture as evidence. (Carolyn made me take it.)

I wish I had taken a full photo of the chair he bought. It was a funky wingback chair in this khaki canvas fabric.  I also heard that Ralp Lauren's people were there buying up lots of goodies, but we missed them as well.

Okay back to my Round Top deal...

Give up?

It's the vintage white lace duvet cover at the foot of my bed.

It has lots of pretty details.  It's cotton, not linen, but for $5, I'm thrilled!  I had bought some vintage linen sheets from eBay, that had never been used or washed, that I planned to transform into a duvet cover for this bed, but now I can use those sheets for something else.

Cowgirl Up! Linky Party #39

Welcome to Week 39
of
The Cowgirl Up! Link Party!
1 Party, 4 Blogs

Your Host this week is . . .

I've been super busy lately.  One reason is that we just bought a new place close to Mr. CH's office and are building a new house. If you missed the post, you can find it here.  It will look something like the one below.  I'm pinning like crazy, so if you want to see my inspiration boards, you can find the one for the house here and the kitchen one here.

This should keep me busy for awhile.  I started to say "out of trouble" but I"m not sure that would be accurate!  Case in point, Mr. CH has already asked in an accusing sort of way if I was going to start buying stuff for the new house now, although it won't be ready until April or May.  I said, "Of course not," exasperated that he would ask such a ridiculous question... I mean.... the nerve!!!  I continued, "The new house won't be ready for months, and we don't have room to store anything extra."  (To quote George from Seinfeld, "It's not a lie, if YOU believe it.")  And I did believe it... at the time, but to date I have purchased one large mirror, a console and a bookcase for the new house, and maybe a few other things.  #slappingmyownhand.

Here are the features for this week...

Betsy from Coastal Colors found an easy way to transfer a graphic to wood.

From Generation to Generation talked about gathering walnuts

Fancy Frugal Life made me hungry with their homemade noodles.

Chaos in my Casa showed the gradual changes to her dining room

Twigg Studio made deer antlers from straws, for real!!

Ranger 911 has the most darling red cross display

We bought a house!!

Yes, it's official, we bought a house.  I know... I'm as surprised as you are.  (Okay you are probably not surprised, but I am. You know me so well.)

We are actually building a new house, so there aren't any photos of it yet, but this house is similar to what ours will look like.

We have lived in our city house for 22 years.  (We divide our time between the ranch and the city.)  For 22 years, the mister has had an hour commute to his office.  When we bought our current city house it seemed so huge compared to our first starter home that I actually said to Mr. CH, "This house is so big, that we will be able to live in it until our kids (non-existent at that time) graduate from high school."  (Note: Don't EVER say that or ANYTHING REMOTELY LIKE THAT to your husband. They keep these little innocent comments locked up for future use against us.)

(I'm showing some of my inspiration photos in this post, since there aren't any photos of the new house yet.)

A few years ago, when I got the itch to move into a newer home, those words came back to bite me.  He reminded me that I had said our house would work for me until our kids graduated from high school, and they were (are) still in school.  (He remembers this comment from 22 years ago, and yet when I ask him to take out the trash, that is forgotten as the words are still falling from my mouth.)

Arranging Flowers

The flowers in the pastures were so beautiful last week, that I couldn't help myself; I cut some fresh flowers for the house.

I found myself smiling as I cut the stems and added them to my pitchers.

I began to wonder if it was actually possible to be unhappy while arranging flowers.

It was a cloudy Fall day, but the lack of sunshine cast no shadows on my joy.  Did you notice my gorgeous little chandy?  It's from Decor Steals.

Kitchen Envy

I know, I know, "Thou shall not covet."  But does that really apply to kitchens?  I think "NOT"!

Okay, so if we can't covet, how about a  good, old fashion "appreciation"?

This is the kitchen I want.  When we saw this house, I hated the location, but my heart stood still when I walked into this room.

Adding White to a Room

I am enjoying my new slipcovers, click here if you missed the post, and although I love, love the new toned down look in my living room, my walls are still yellow, which doesn't go so well with the oatmeal colored linen.

I had oil paintings with heavy gold frames, yellow walls, and a gold and brown rug.  I am moving toward a white palette, so the yellow on the walls was bothering me, but I didn't want to paint the wall right now, if I didn't have to.

BEFORE

The first thing I did was to put out a distress call on Facebook.  I got so many wonderful suggestions.

I decided to change out the rug to a tan colored wool flat-woven rug.

Linsey at The Farmhouse Porch

***Warning***I am about to shamelessly self promote my new little ETSY shop. If you wish you may scroll straight down to the party and avoid my commercial. I will keep it super short though, promise.

I am so excited to announce the opening of The Farmhouse Porch ETSY shop

I've got my original oil paintings AND old shabby, farmhouse-y things for sale.

I would be honored for you to stop by.

Click HERE to see it!

OK, let's get moving right along to the Cowgirl Up party

First up--- thank you to everyone who entered our Giveaway last week,

sponsored by Appliance Online

And the winner of the $50 gift card to Amazon.com is

"Teresa"

who left her party comment over at  the Farmhouse Porch.

Teresa- be on the look-out for an email about how to claim your prize!

My picks from last week's party are...

Homemade pumpkin dog treats by What We Keep. With the price of dog treats being more than I spend on human treats, this recipe is probably healthier for the pup and the pocketbook than store bought!

I really enjoyed looking at the vintage Girl Scout patches shared by Organized Clutter. I just completed training to be a Girl Scout leader this week, and I still have all of my pins and badges from scouting. Good memories...

Vintage Charm by Mimi shared this beautiful shabby bench transformation

Small Home Big Start tempted my tastebuds with this  (lower calorie) crustless pumpkin Pie with Streusel Topping

The The Loud Silence revealed her beautifully refinished buffet. I love it!

And for the grand finale, a kitchen tour by White Lace Cottage,  I am such a fan of her shabby farmhouse style!

Let's see whut-cha got!

Antique Frames, and a Question

The question is not do I frame artwork, but do I put artwork in the frame.

That might seem like a strange question to most, but to you, I know it will sound normal. (At that's why I tell you what I'm doing and not my next-door neighbor.)

When I found these on eBay, I thought, "why not?"  They are made with wonderful plaster that's chipping off in a decidedly delightful way.
