Christmas on the Back Porch

My blog address has changed, please bookmark
the new address

No snow? No problem. We'll be on the back porch enjoying the sunshine and a hearty meal this Christmas.

There's no need to buy greenery when you're at Cedar Hill. I just grab some clippers and head to the nearest cedar tree. The red berries are also plentiful here.

These Boots Were Made for Walking

Our friend Steve asked me one time what it was like to own a ranch. What he meant was - is it fun or is it a pain in the neck.  That was an easy question, it's fun!

Not to say that things don't ever go wrong here, or that it isn't a lot of work, it's just that being here makes me happy.  The fresh air, the breeze, the birds chirping, and the babbling creek all put a smile on my face.

Miss Mustard Seed's Rug

I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm a morning person; but I would say I'm happy to get up every morning.

I'm truly excited about the day, and excited to come here and meet with you. I know, I know, I've said it before, but it's totally true.  I love coming here to see what you have to say.

Let's get you some tea, and you can sit in one of my favorite spots here in my room.  I'll even let you sit in the "good" chair.  So what's going on with you?  I sometimes feel like I'm doing all of the talking, but I know you've got lots going on in your life.

Linen Christmas Stockings

It's official, I love white!!  Now even our Christmas Stockings are a creamy white linen.

Here's all of our stockings all in a row.

I used a creamy linen for the stocking, a striped linen for the cuff, a bit of simple lace, added an initial so Santa would know whose is whose, and a sprig of real red berries for an extra special touch
.

The mantle is going more rustic with these architectural fragments I found at Round Top.

Lots of chippy goodness here, to add lots of texture to the room.

The candles are some I painted with homemade chalk paint a long time ago.

I added more berries to the mantle. The "Fifteenth St." sign also came from Round Top.

And rather than a heavy garland of greenery, I added this simple strand of handmade vintage lace.

I filled the ironstone pitcher with more red berries from outdoors.  Mr. CH asked what MEKLA stood for. I looked at him for a minute, and said, "You're overthinking this, it's just our initials."  He should know I'm pretty uncomplicated and am not sending a secret message to some underworld spy.  But if I was, I couldn't tell him any way.
