This year, my word is "UP". Again, I didn't think about it, it just came out of my mouth without thought. Wait a minute, that didn't sound right. What I am trying to say is that I think you often get a more creative answer when you don't overthink it.
So you think 'UP' is a simple word with a short meaning? I did, until I looked it UP. Mirriam Webster says it means
1 a(1) : in or into a higher position or level; (2) : from beneath the ground or water to the surface (3) : from below the horizon (4) :upstream (5) : in or into an upright position (sit up); especially : out of bed
b : upward from the ground or surface (pull up a daisy);c : so as to expose a particular surface
2: with greater intensity 3 a : in or into a better or more advanced state
b : at an end (your time is up)
c : in or into a state of greater intensity or excitement
d : to or at a greater speed, rate, or amount (prices went up);
e : in a continual sequence : in continuance from a point or to a point (from third grade up);
4 a (1) : into existence, evidence, prominence, or prevalence(2) : into operation or practical form
b : into consideration or attention (bring up for discussion)
5: into possession or custody
6 a : entirely, completely (button up your coat)b: —used as an intensifier (clean up the house)
7: in or into storage
8 a : so as to arrive or approach
b : in a direction conventionally the opposite of down: (1) :to windward (2) : northward (3) : to or at the top(It actually goes on and on, this is just an excerpt.)
2: with greater intensity 3 a : in or into a better or more advanced state
b : at an end (your time is up)
c : in or into a state of greater intensity or excitement
d : to or at a greater speed, rate, or amount (prices went up);
e : in a continual sequence : in continuance from a point or to a point (from third grade up);
4 a (1) : into existence, evidence, prominence, or prevalence(2) : into operation or practical form
b : into consideration or attention (bring up for discussion)
5: into possession or custody
6 a : entirely, completely (button up your coat)b: —used as an intensifier (clean up the house)
7: in or into storage
8 a : so as to arrive or approach
b : in a direction conventionally the opposite of down: (1) :to windward (2) : northward (3) : to or at the top(It actually goes on and on, this is just an excerpt.)
"with greater intensity"
"a better more advanced state"
"into a great state of excitement"
"into existence"
"to the top"
It even has spiritual meanings-
"Look up for your redemption draws nigh."
So may you live life UP!
with greater intensity (don't just exist but fully LIVE)
with more excitement (start each day happy to be alive)
may you reach for the stars (follow your dreams)
may your creativity soar (use your God-given talents).
(For you English teachers out there, I know that you are not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition, but what's UP with that?)

I'm not good with resolutions either but I had to make a few because I have many, many projects in the works this year that I simply must get done. So I need to get my fanny "up" off this couch and stop reading blogs and get my projects going! :) Have a great day.
Sounds like a very positive word for the new year! Happy 2013:@)
Beautiful! Here's to a year of UP!
What a great word! And easy to spell, too! I like it - and if I didn't have to work on "gracious" again this year, I'd choose "up"!
I like your word. Mine is hope, well actually I have 2, trust is also in there. I need to do both this year. XO, Pinky
Great, meaningful word. This is my first year choosing a "word." My post goes up later today:) I was an English major, but I didn't mind one bit! Here's to an "UP" year!

Bravo! This is a 2 thumbs UP post for me, Anita. ;-)
I like your word, Anita, but I really love that picture. Sheer beauty. Also, you sure got a little word with a lotta meaning. What a bargain. I actually just shared my word in a post too. Of course, I did it with a tad bit of humor. Cause I didn't know about this idea of starting the year with a Word. It was one of those "hey where have i been all my life, how come I didn't know about this?" And gosh knows, I still have a lot those moments. Even at my age...tee hee.
Wishing you a wonderful New Years with a whole lot of UP!
hugs,
Leslie (aka gwen moss)
