Valentine's Day Luncheon

I had so much fun with my friends for a recent luncheon at my house.   

Did they tease me about my blog? Oh yes, they did!  

Did they like their candy filled goodie boxes?  I think so. Carol left hers accidentally at my house, so I gave it to the babysitter.  (Sorry Carol!)

I mentioned in an earlier post, that my daughter and I made a batch of sugar cookies, and that my daughter ate many of them.  I barely had enough left to give all of my guests one large cookie each.  

Carol was so thoughtful she carefully wrapped hers in a napkin to take home to her kids.  As she was leaving she set it down on a chair so she could grab her purse. Meanwhile Molly (We also call her Lassie because she looks just like Lassie.) surgically removed Carol's cookie from it's paper wrapping, and set it gently on the floor, where she could savor it's sugary goodness. Carol screamed when she realized what had happened.    

Well, I had to grab that cookie from Molly.  The last thing I need is a collie with a delicate digestive system eating gluten.  (Trust me, it's not pretty.)  I think I'm beginning to figure out why Carol forgot her goodie box.  She, Carol, not Molly, did do a lovely song and dance for my birthday, which happened to be a few weeks prior.  Turns out Carol used to deliver singing telegrams when she was younger.  

I served wassail (spiced apple cider) and chicken a la king over heart shaped biscuits, along with some other goodies my friends brought. 

Everyone seemed to have a good time and they even waited patiently while I took a few photos. 

Jill said the food was getting cold, so these about all of the photos I got.  I guess the patience could only last so long.  

The wassail is something I make every winter. Here's the recipe.

WASSAIL   

2 quarts apple juice

2 cups orange juice

1/2 cup brown sugar

3 (3-inch) sticks cinnamon

1 teaspoon whole cloves

1 teaspoon whole allspice

garnish orange slices 

Combine all ingredients in a Dutch oven; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 1 hours.  Strain and discard the spices. Serve hot.
